Voices 2013: A Fashion benefit for Ruth Ellis Center

The Ruth Ellis Center will host its 5th annual benefit, Voices, on September 12, with HGTV Design Star finalist Mikel Welch emceeing a fashion show featuring youth designers. Voices, which will be held at the College for Creative Studies Alfred A Tubman Center (CCS), celebrates the youth’s self expression through fashion.

CCS design students worked with Ruth Ellis Center youth to repurpose unused, donated clothing into high-fashion garments. The fashion show will be emceed by Welch and will feature youth who will model their fashions.

Voices will include a VIP reception with a wine tasting, a DPS student jazz ensemble and a silent auction. The event will also have a “marketplace” with boutiques from local retailers including Detroit Denim, Detroit Manufacturing, DSE Detroit and The Peacock Room with a portion of the event proceeds from sales benefitting the Center.

Tickets to Voices are $350 for the VIP reception, starting at 5:00 p.m.; $175 for the main event and $75 for guests 30 and under and child welfare professionals for the reception, beginning at 6:00 p.m. The evening also features a delicious strolling dinner, wine tastings, and live music.
